Grim Sleeper Trial. The Jury is back… but not all of them!

April 25th Monday… Most Jurors were back but not all.

The Jury was due back today. Beth Silverman was pacing the room telling her team ‘not to unpack yet as Juror #10 is sick and in the emergency room’. What else could possibly happen in this Trial I asked myself. This time the delay wasn’t even caused by Seymour Amster, in fact the reason this time might even be valid. I overheard that ‘we have already lost 2 Jurors already’. Meaning that 2 alternates are already in place. If another one is used to replace #10, then we will only be left with 1 alternate. If Amster continues his lunacies then soon we will lose all of them and end up with a mis-trial. Maybe this is what he’s going for.

Another Juror, Juror #8, was apparently stuck in traffic, so the plan was to wait for this Juror before allowing the rest of the Jurors in to then explain the dilemma of the day. Stuck in traffic? Who the heck does he/she think he is being ‘stuck in traffic’? This is the most prolific and high profiled Trials since OJ Simpson and this Juror has the balls to get ‘stuck in traffic’! Sorry but being ‘sick’ is one thing but being stuck in traffic is absolute and utter balls!

The ultimate decision on Juror #10 will be down to the Judge. Will she call upon an alternate Juror to continue the Trial to replace #10 or will she want to wait and see how sick this Juror really is to see if we can continue on with him.

At 9.22am Lonnie Franklin was walked in by the miserable Bailiff with the permanently down turned mouth. He, Franklin, was wearing a blue denim shirt and beige trousers. He was hanging on to his trousers for dear life as they looked like they were about to fall down due to his massive loss of weight and not because he’s following the gangster trend of the ‘saggy pants’.

The Alexander family were all seated in their pew looking like the perfect church going family. The mother was dressed in a beautiful red and white matching outfit today and her sons were both there along with her husband Porter Alexander. They are all always dressed nicely and are so respectful to everyone around them. Even though any other family would have reached over to strangle the Defense lawyer, they just sit there every day listening to his lies and games just silently shaking their heads. Like we all do. God Bless this family and I do hope to interview them at the end of the Trial. Their sister/daughter was very young when she was murdered by the Grim Sleeper and I pray that Justice will be served for them soon.

We waited and we waited for Juror #10 to pick up his cell phone in the emergency room, which was where we were told he was at. He didn’t pick his phone up. So the Judge let the motions begin between the 2 Counsels. Silverman was pretty annoyed.

D.A: “Only last night, your Honour, we received 2 boxes full of materials, emails, power points, documents, articles, portions of books relating to firearms and photos from other cases and it will take us at least a week to go through it all if Counsel intends to present all this. I just don’t understand why we have just received almost a foot high of materials”.

Amster: “Because I wanted to make sure that there were no discovery issues whatsoever”! He retorted right back with his hands flailing as he shouted.

So the bottom line in layman’s terms is that for weeks, months and even years ‘The People’/The Prosecution have asked for the Defense to show them what they plan to bring in as evidence to the Trial. This would include all of their discovery, their Witnesses and all the documents they plan to use in front of the Jury, meaning during the Trial.

Obviously Amster has delayed, delayed and delayed on this for years with his games and stalling tactics. So now (in the ’11th hour’ as Silverman often says), he now magically comes up with all these long awaited documents. What an utter disgrace! Yet he receives no discipline for this at all.

So we were released for an hour from 10am to 11am to wait for Juror #8 to arrive from his/her time in traffic and for Juror #10 to pick up his cell phone in the emergency room. I went outside and made a few phone calls. I made quite a few calls in fact to tell everyone I know the new farce of the day.

I came back 15 minutes early to sit outside Dept #109 and I sat next to a lady, I’m assuming she was in her 50’s, who seemed to have a nice open happy face. Certainly not like a lot of the women who sit in the Courtroom and the gallery who always give me daggers every time I walk by or we accidentally make eye contact. There are 3 awful ‘women’ to be exact but I won’t mention their names. This ‘lady’, who I was sitting next to, had a kind face so I asked her what she was doing here at the Trial and if she was involved in the case somehow. I knew she wasn’t a family member as she’s white. She answered that she and her husband have come and sat in on the Trial on a few occasions as they like to sit in on Trials and they find this one fascinating.

This ‘lady’ went on to say, “And we love following your Blog. Often times it makes my husband and I laugh out loud the way your write about the Defense lawyer! We knew that the Jury would be coming back today because of what you wrote in your Blog yesterday, so we decided to drive down today to sit in on the Trial”. Well I must say I was absolutely ‘gob-smacked’. That’s English for completely speechless, humbled, flattered and all words that I can conjure up to say that I was really ‘lost for words’. I had no idea how they could even have found my Blog or even my name especially as I’d never spoken to them before.

I know and appreciate that I have a lot of followers of my Blog who are friends and acquaintances of mine because some of them tell me privately in emails or on the phone or in person that they are ‘following me and my writing’. But to have a complete stranger say this was really very nice indeed. “So Fred and Linda, if you are reading this, this Blog’s for you :-)”

)This lovely couple have a son who is an LAPD detective (I won’t mention his name or his Division for his privacy) and if they don’t want this paragraph mentioned I hope they will let me know when they next see me in Court and I will remove it).

We all went back in to the Courtroom at 11am and, as it was very apparent that we were not going to be waiting around for Juror #10 to call back from the emergency room, we were released for the day at that time.

Tomorrow, Tuesday will be the deciding day as to whether we will be using the alternate Juror.

Hmmmm… I wonder what craziness and delays tomorrow will bring.
